I just finished reading an article on the Engagements at Monteith Swamp and Shaw's Bridge. In both the Confederacy was in desperate need of additional seasoned troops to stop Sherman. Was General Hood's campaign to disrupt General Sherman's supply line after the fall of Atlanta and the ensuing battles a wise use of the limited troops available to the Confederacy? It seems like a 30 or 40 thousand addition troops in Georgia would have made Sherman's March much more difficult.
