When talking with my physical therapist, the subject of our Civil War came up (he is from the Netherlands and came to US at 16 and traveled to many others). He said this was the only country he had ever been in that had monuments erected to honor the losing side of a war. I had never thought of that before, being a Southerner and just accepting it as normal. Interesting question though. I would like your ideas and knowledge. I read a paper about Columbus, GA's commemoration of the the Confederacy that gave me some insight, but why were the erection of monuments allowed?
