This Confederate Monument in Swain County, N.C., was placed in 1935 to honor the "Loyal Cherokees." The plaque depicts Will West wearing the "typical one-feather headdress of the Cherokees." This monument was sponsored by thirteen western North Carolina U.D.C. chapters.
