If you have ever been to Chattanooga. Gone to Point Park and looked to Moccasin Bend. Most visual thing you see is the State Mental Hospital. This story goes back to the 1960s. However due to local preservation efforts. The Hospital will be gone. Give us another area for presentations. Unlock some of this Historical area. Article from local mag that describes some of the recent events. NPS is putting a facility on the bend.

That would be it to the right of the interpretive marker correct?:

It would. There is a golf course, RC airplane club, and a water treatment plant that remain in the archeological district. City of Chattanooga recently moved their shooting range.

NPS tried to get access to some of this over the years. Walking trail etc. State being protective of the Hospital declined. Useful life of the facility has ended. State proposed and was it the process of building a smaller facility on the site. It was thought that at the end of its useful life, it would move. Senators and Governors have short time periods. So essentially the process of getting it moved had to revert back to the beginning.

So, hopefully some time. The rest of it will be saved. Hospital was the monumental part of it.
