Gosh, with the Commutation System, what the locals made for their troops when they first marched off, you would have a hard time pinning down who had what, and when!
Over shirts/Battle shirts would have been common, as the picture posted of a jacket that looks like one a Military Cadet would wear.
Also when the Confederate Quartermaster system came into being, what uniform they were issued would depend on the theater they were fighting in.
A civilian attire would get you into a lot of scenario's...
