Missing the Boat (03-29-15)

Since I've missed the boat on the Sunday questions (sorry about that) I am now rectifying that with a boat question.
David Dixon Porter, played a role in the supply of camels to the US prior to the Civil War aboard the ship aptly named USS Supply. As well as one Senator Jefferson Davis of Mississippi impetus in camels being purchased for the US Camel Corps. The famed Douglas the camel had purportedly been in that group (although he joined the CSA). Sounds as if the the camels were a cantankerous group and scared horses and mules. After the use of the camels going into disuse some feral camels roamed throughout various parts of the US. Well, enough of the fluff, getting to the question-after commanding the USS Supply prior to the Civil War which ship was his next to command in 1861?

That should be the "Powhatan".

"When the Civil War began in 1861, David Dixon Porter took command of the Powhatan in an abortive attempt to relieve Fort Pickens, Florida, and soon joined the Union's naval forces in the blockade of the Southern port cities."

When the Civil War began in 1861, David Dixon Porter took command of the Powhatan which was sent in an effort to relieve Fort Pickens at Pensacola Florida, and later to assist in the blockade of southern ports.

Interestingly, the Powhatan was named after a Native American chief and was one of the last, and largest, of the United States Navy's paddle frigates.
