What did the soldiers use to lube the Minnie balls during the CW. Also was the lube added underneath the bottom skirt and also the groves of the bullet.

My gggrand uncle carved out a spot in his rifle stock and kept beeswax in it. Still have the rifle and you can still see the beeswax in it.

If I recall correctly, the official Confederate lube mixture was 6 parts Beeswax and 4 parts Tallow. The entire exterior of the Gardner Minie Ball was covered with that lube, but none was normally found in the base.
