Minnesota Compiled Service Records

Hey, everyone!
I'm guessing most people on here have used, or at least know of, the Compiled Service Records made after the Civil War of Soldiers using enlistment, discharge, monthly muster rolls and other records. I was wondering if these were ever made for Minnesota? I have not seen them, or at least not publicly. Is this something you would have to go to NARA for? I'm looking for a few guys who were in Minnesota Cavalry on the frontier.

I haven't done any Minnesota research, but from what I can tell, their records aren't uploaded to Fold3 yet. Rather than complete CSRs, it's just index cards that give rank, regiment, name, company. So, yes, I expect you'd need to order them from NARA.

Someone with more experience will be along shortly, though, I'm sure.

Many decades ago the UDC paid to have Confederate records microfilmed. I suppose it's easier and less time consuming to scan microfilm and that's why there are not many Union records available at Fold3.

Minnesota service records are not online yet. They may be at some point down the road, but they are not actively working on scanning any more of these.

The ones for the Union that are online are the ones from states that sent less soldiers to the war. So states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Minnesota, etc that sent more soldiers have not been scanned online.

You have to go to the National Archives in DC in person to get these, or order copies of them from them.

Shameless plug here, but I go to the National Archives about once a month and can get files for people there. There is a fee involved to cover my time, but it's much cheaper and quicker than going through NARA directly. Let me know if I can help!
