Military Heritage weekend

Attended military heritage weekend this past April 2-3 at the Red Mill museum and village in Clinton New Jersey, and had a great time setting up a display of some of my trinkets. Had a great talk with Gen Grant, met a Pearl Harbor survivor, a marine who was part of the Normandy beach invasion, and a great bunch of ww1 and ww2 reenactors who set up an amazing camp that reminded me of M.A.S.H., there were military vehicles, musicians, the Magnolia Sadies,, Sadly only myself and Gen Grant were the only 2 in attendance for the ACW, as no other groups attended. They had room for an overnight encampment, 19th century buildings to occupy, and even fire permits (in new jersey that's a miracle!), Saturday was good, Sunday was a bust because it poured all day, but based on last year's success, they decided to make it a 2 day event this year, which is rare, because usually events such as this are getting scaled back, whereas the Red Mill Museum want to it to expand. Groups attended in years past, but the event fizzled during covid. Fast fwd to 2022, new leadership and fresh faces want to push push push this event to a much bigger event, involving the town. It's nice to see the event trying to grow, as opposed to die off like so many other smaller events. Hopefully some groups join up or prior groups reenlist for next year's event.

Looks great. I imagine transporting your artifacts and setting them up for display is not an easy task.

Fortunately I do small Home shows for my business, so I have a trailer, tons of moving blankets, crates, etc. I had an entire all original encampment set up inside the building as well, with a fully appointed field desk, sibley tripod and stove, with pots and cookware, carpet chairs and a fully recreated campsite mess display that we reproduced to an almost spot on exact match from this photo below. And using original hunted down pieces, we managed to get every detail quite correct from the proper era tinware, pickle bottle, glassware, even right down to the hardtack(repro) and broken bottle,,all except the eaten chicken carcass. And I totally forgot to take a single photo lol. I'm still kicking myself
