Michael Egan soldier?

A few years ago I posted on my GGG Grandfather Michael Egan who may have been in the Civil War. Maybe after a few years technology has advanced to figure this question out. The only thing known is he married Anne Burke, lived in Trenton NJ, daughter Mary and son Thomas. He was 35 years old in the 1860 Trenton, NJ census. Any further info would be greatly appreciated.

It's tough when you don't know for sure and have to try and prove a fact from scratch. Your GGG grfather is on the old side for a Union soldier - unless he volunteered he may have been old enough to avoid the draft. It's unfortunate that he has a common name and lived in an area with a reasonably high population. You could easily find several Michael Egans (or Michael Eagans, since that's a common alternate spelling) and have to disprove each one to be sure. Do you know where he lived in the years after the War and when he died?

He lived in Trenton, NJ and he died in 1879.

I can't find any records that show he served or that his wife got a pension. I did find a draft record for a Michael Agan which would fit him, but it does not note that he enlisted, only that he was recorded in the draft rolls.
