Please send pics and price if you have these parts for a Merrill carbine model 2: band, rear sight, front sight (incl. base?), lock plate screw (second from front). I added a pic of what I'll be picking up next month.

Likely need a mainspring, not a lock plate/saddle bar screw. I'll have her mid next week. Can't wait.

I fixed/welded the original mainspring. I'll take any condition rear sight and brass band. Pm me and I'll reply right away.

Restoration is going so well again. Stymied as to why those blasted butt plate screws won't budge. When my CRC freeze-off can arrives I'll heat up the brass plate the hit the screws with the spray. Supposed to drop the affected metal 60-70 degrees.

Found a guy on eBay who had the buttplate screws that have the 13/32" head diameter - from a m1855-64.

As for the brass band, I know the Sharps carbine, from the earliest serial NM1859s back had brass bands, right? I'll get out my caliper and measure the barrel and forend widths plus overall height as assembled. Maybe the Sharps carbine or long rifle bands will work. I do have all four to try. When I post the specs needed, please check your manufacturer brass band and let me know if a fit, OR if yours would be slightly undersized and could be widened a bit to fit snugly. If the m1855-64 buttplate screws were a match then maybe too the band was shared. Easier to assemble if parts already mass produced for Springfields. Gotta believe Merrill was smart that way.

Dimensions brass band-wise are as follows:

Barrel width - 61/64"
Stock forend width - 1 5/32"
Combined height - 1 23/64"
Width (measured on forend wood wear) - 1/2" (maybe 15/32")

My Sharps carbine was the closest to what I needed. Inner height was 1 15/32" (7/64" too much) and max inner width was 1 11/64" (1/64" too much, maybe okay?). The Sharps long rifle's front and middle bands were too small, and the rear band was too tall/wide.

Please share any of your rifle or carbine brass band dimensions that would work. Primary interest at this point is those m1855-64 brass bands. Thanks, Eric.

Found on eBay an m1864 lower band that in the pics looked brass but not described as such by easyreach4u (Ken). Was too big, but at 30 maybe it's a good deal for someone here. My best bet has to be other manufactured carbines with brass hardware.

When was the most recent encounter you had with a Merrill part, carbine or rifle, either in person or online? Does anyone have any contacts where folks had parts at one time? The parts are out there, it's just connecting the dots.

James Pettit is the only person on this planet with a Merrill part to sell - a brass patchbox. Someone out there has the rear sight and brass band to complete my restoration.
