Meat & rice cooked together

Rice was a big staple for Confederates in my neck of the woods. They hunted what ever they could get along with chickens or other poultry (birds, squirrels, & so forth) to cook in a big iron pot with rice. This makes for a hearty meal.

A hearty meal indeed! Almost any potato, rice, grain may be deliciously combined with a meat, with the addition of a few vegetables for a wonderfully nourishing and tasty meal! Cooking in a cast iron pot does add to the flavor and ambiance!!!

Welcome from Wisconsin. Meat and gravy on rice is delicious! Add a thick slice of buttered bread, creamy coleslaw and it's the perfect comfort meal.

Welcome, Keith1977! That looks very good indeed. Meat and rice is still a Southern staple. This one takes Lipton soup mix, which I'm pretty sure the soldiers didn't have! But I'd bet they made something similar when they caught a rabbit or other edible critter.
Thanks @diane .

You've just provided the game plan for tomorrow night's dinner.

Stewed beef on rice, followed by a few good beers & Monday night football.

That looks perfect for a chilly November evening. :hungry:
