According to this, The Tennessean writer may have screwed up the story in a minor way. There were two Nashville mayors with the same name, both related, with the first one building the Carnton Plantation in Franklin in 1826; the second one dying at the Battle of Raymond in 1863. The story hinted that the second McGavock (the Colonel) built it. Minor discrepancy.
