The Company of Military Historians have also did three color plates in their Military Uniforms in America uniform plate series which shows 6 enlisted uniforms and 5 officer uniforms.

The Confederate States Marine button is IMHO the rarest of the rare of CS buttons. All the examples (3) I have held in my hot little hand have been HT&B Manchester B/M. 2 of those were found a VicksburgThe CS Army & Navy Regs do NOT address the CS Marines button which is why its rare. There was not even a big enough demand for a local CS maker to produce them.

Thanks for the liking:bounce:

I was wondering what you did with your uniform plates. Are the published in some magazine or on line uniform site or are they for you own use?

Do you have a special interest in the Confederate Marines?

I'm drawing for 40 years. Always as a hobby during my free time. My subject is almost always the Confederate soldier, behind every design, an accurate historical research, believe of possessing an enviable collection of books on the subject. In October I completed a book on the confederate Navy with over 40 uniform tables (three or four I published in our forum). On the return from work tonight I list the subject of the tables. I hope to find a publisher.

I am impressed with your work. You live a long way from most archives and such which house this information.

Today I am a volunteer docent at the Michigan History Museum. So much of the material on Michigan in the Civil War is in The Michigan Arcieves with is about 25 feet from where I am setting. This arcieves probably has limited Confederate information, but if you ever need Michigan Civil War information send me a PM.

This is the list of tables I have prepared, I had not drawn anything on the marines, the one above is the first one.

Very nice. It is getting easier to research American Civil War uniforms from abroad but it still must be a challenge. Confederate Marines are not a subject that has been studied to a great degree.
Actually, there's a pretty extensive thread somewhere here in the forums covering C.S. Marines and their uniforms.

Hi!
I was just stumbeling over this in the net.
Very nice plate, but ....... the M buckle is a 1970/80´s fake one.
And the kepis, even of the officers, were often plane dark blue.

It would be nice if you can do also a plate of CS Marines enlisted in this style.

dark blue kepi, NO USMC insignia
gray frock coat (the colour should be english broad cloth = blue grey), 7 M buttons front (2 on the back), dark blue piping at cuffs & collar
white pants = summer, dark blue = winter
Brogans
englisch leather gear (all black, snake buckle belt, ball pouche, capbox (at strap of cartridgebox on the breast) enfield cartridge box, enfield frog)
Enfield 3 band musket with bayonet

All informations are approved by the actual leading authentic (US and German) CSMC reenactors and David M. Sullivan.
If you need some pictures of the correct uniform just send me a PM.

Interesting suggestion. Klaudly's art work is in fact very nice. Klaudly can be contacted by the private message part of this forum.

David M. Sullivan is an expert in this field. I would have to believe that most CSMC reenactors are knowledgeable one might want to discuss with them where they got their information. I am not trying to insult reenactors but it is wise to check where they obtained thier information. There has been more information found on CSMC uniforms and some of the older information might need to be reevaluated.

Many officers' kepis were blue, but some were gray with blue band and crown. Regarding the buckle I do not say, because I do not have much information. Enlisted marines (but also the officers) also wore gray trousers, while the enlisted marines also wore jackets from the department to which they belonged.

I agree about the fantasy CS Marine buckle and have seen many of them at gun shows during that era - they aren't even made correctly like period tongue-in-wreath buckles were. Maybe my Marine officer's impression for the TV movie Ironclads (seen here with "Gen. Lee") wasn't too far off the mark!
