Lane sent the seventh North Carolina infantry south to round up deserters in North Carolina. He did not send it to join hoke.

You Need to change one of your regiment designations. The Hampton region was mounted infantry. Please put the word mountain in front of the word infantry.

Glad to see that you labeled Norborne Berkeley's generalship as "alleged."
Berkeley was a colonel only. Postwar he was a militia general, and according was sometimes called "general" for that militia (not Confederate) rank.

Had some time to finally go over the whole thing. Here's what I found:
Army:
- Blackford's a LTC, I think
- Escort company's from Peter Batte's 44th VA Infantry, not Cavalry, Battalion. the 44th VA Cavalry Battalion are partisan rangers operating in West Virginia.
1st Army Corps:
- Humphreys never commanded his brigade after Berryville last September. Lt Col William Fitzgerald of the 21st's in command
- Colonel Kirkwood Otey commanded the 11th VA until April 1; and Colonels James Phillips, William Aylett, and Clement Fontaine commanded (respectively) the 9th, 53rd, and 57th VA Infantries until April 6, when they were all captured.
- Frank Huger was a Colonel, Haskell was a LTC, and Cabell stayed in command of his battalion until April 8, when he was captured and Hamilton took over.
- Robert M. Anderson's (Virginia) Battery and 1st Company, Richmond Howitzers are the same; Anderson commands. McCarthy resigned or something a while ago
2nd Army Corps:
- Forno's not in Louisiana, he's at Macon, Georgia commanding reserves
- 9th and 18th Georgia Battalions didn't join Evans' Brigade till April 7
- Stonewall Brigade is under Lt Col Charles L Haynes, not Capt. Jenkins
- Col. Edwin A. Nash is a LTC, not a Colonel, and he takes the brigade after General Cook's wounded March 25. Capt. John M. Shiver replaces Nash at 4th Georgia command.
- Rufus Wharton, of 1st NC Sharpshooters, was promoted a while back to LTC of 67th NC. The commander's probably that lieutenant, R. W. Woodruff
- Brig. Gen. Robert D. Johnston's away commanding anti-deserter operations in the mountains, Col. John W. Lea's in command, I think.
- Stark's Artillery Battalion is part of the Richmond defenses, not Long's command
- Capt Willis J Dance went on sickleave in February, and was prom. Major while convalescing. Lt John R bagby commands Powhatan Artillery.
- Carter's Battalion disbanded after Carter was captured at Spotsylvania back in May or June, 1864, and the batteries assigned to Cutshaw's Battalion.
3rd Army Corps:
- Brig. Gen. Brevard was never confirmed after his March 22 appointment.
- 2nd Florida's commander was Col. Walter R. Moore.
- Lt. Col. John M. Blair, 2nd Mississippi, was captured February 7, 1865. Capt. William Harvey commands the regiment.
- Company F of the 15th, B and D of the 46th, A and B of the 48th, and K of the 55th were in NC on the same assignment that the 7th NC from Lane's brigade was. While a few men from these companies were at Appomattox, their captains and lieutenants were not.
- Owen's Artillery battalion was disbanded March 22. Owen was assigned as XO to McIntosh's Battalion, and Chamberlayne's battery was assigned there as well. Walker's and Dickenson's batteries were placed in a new battalion under Lt. Col. J. Floyd King to serve in the Richmond defenses.
- Moore's battery IS the Huger Artillery. Official name is the Norfolk Light Artillery, not to be confused with Grandy's Norfolk Blues Light Artillery.
- Half of Landry's Louisiana Battery is at High Bridge, Va., in Wise's First Military District. The detachment is 43 men under Lt. Camille Mollere, and the post of High Bridge is commanded by Maj. Victor Maurin, XO of Richardson's battalion. They didn't rejoin the battalion until April 6
- 4th MD Battery was detached from the battalion March 22 to report to Richmond to consolidate with 2nd MD Battery. Not sure what happened after, but considering the relatively clear structure of McIntosh's battalion's officer corps at Appomattox, they were probably serving elsewhere on April 2.
4th Army Corps:
- Kelly's battery is in North Carolina.
Cavalry Corps:
- Col. Thomas H. Owen commands 3rd Va. Cavalry.
- Official organization of Cavalry Corps Horse Artillery as of March 20 was:
a. Graham's battery to be sent to NC to join Butler's Division
b. McGregor's Battalion (for WHF Lee's Div): McGregor's (George W. Brown's) and McClanahan's batteries
c. Breathed's Battalion (to serve with Fitzhugh Lee's Division): Shoemaker's and Griffin's batteries.
d. Johnston's Battalion (to serve with Lomax's Division): Johnston's and Jackson's batteries.
e. Thomson's Battalion (to serve with Rosser's Division): Thomson's and Lurty's batteries.
Other troops:
- Nathan Evans is commanding troops down near Roanoke, I think
- Tucker's Naval Brigade is actually not James River Squadron -- at least mostly. Most of those guys went with Semmes' Naval Brigade. Tucker himself is the ex-commander of the Charleston Squadron, and his men are mostly from the Savannah, Charleston, and Wilmington squadrons.
- Maj Johnston Delagnel was killed or something a while back, his battalion's under Maj James Robertson
- Garnett's brigade is at Hicksford, Va.
- Brig. Gen. Zebulon York commanded the Yadkin River bridge -- that Yadkin River bridge is a few miles west of Salisbury, North Carolina. Different department and state.
- I think you've listed 4th VAR Battalion two or three times. The one in Preston's brigade was actually known as the 11th -- yes, I know the 11th is listed as at Danville--it wasn't. It moved to Saltville/Dublin after that last organization.
- Hudgins' battery is actually Capt. Thomas R. Thornton's Caroline Artillery. Hudgins was a lieutenant in it.
- Rives' battery is known better as the Nelson No. 2. Artillery, with Capt. John H. Rives as captain.
- Barham's battery is actually Capt. James Hankins' Surry Artillery. Barham was a lieutenant in it.
- Guerrant's battery is actually Capt. Jonathan Talley's Goochland Artillery. Guerrant was a lieutenant in it.
- Davis's battery is actually Capt. Lucien W. Richardson's James City Artillery. Davis was a lieutenant in it.
- Winder's battery is actually Capt. John J. Young's Norfolk Marine Artillery. Winder was a lieutenant in it.
- Maj. Austin, not Augustin, Leyden
- Captain McClanahan was also captured in December, 1864; his replacement was Lt. (prom. Capt.) Alexander Fultz
- Captain Woodson's A, 1st Missouri was placed with Hanse McNeill's and Harry Gilmor's commands in fall 1864;
- The remnants of McClung's battery were consolidated into Lynch's on January 10, 1865.

I need your help. I am looking at some documents from the G. K. Warren papers and they include an account of the battle of five Forks written by a member of Matthew Ransom's staff. I can't tell who he is because I can't read his name. I wonder if you can help me

Humphreys was no longer in command of the brigade in 1865. He had been wounded and was reassigned to command a district in Mississippi.

GRAHAM's course artillery battery was assigned to Petersburg and fought alongside the cavalry brigade of James DEARING. In 1865 Thomas Rosser promoted DEARING to command his old brigade, the laurel brigade. William Paul Roberts took command of DEARING's
On April 1, 1865 Roberts was assigned to act as a link between the main Confederate force in the White Oak Road defenses and the command of George Pickett, which was stationed at five Forks. Grahams artillery battery was stationed behind Montgomery corses brigade on the Confederate right flank. We would not know this fact, if it were not for a memoir written by a member of this battery which is quoted in one of the Harold Howard books.
On the afternoon of April 1, the division of Samuel Crawford marched across the confederate rear following a route a mile behind the Confederate lines. Upon reaching the Dinwiddie courthouse – five Forks – Ford Depot Road he was joined by G. K. Warren, who took command. Warren March south, along the road, his goal was to take the railroad Junction of five Forks, and then turn west and roll up the confederate defenses along the wide crowd.
Major Pickett, the brother of the famous general, ordered Joseph mayo to take his brigade out of the defensive line and deploy south of Crawford to stop his advance to five Forks. Apparently Pickett also sent for two of the four art pieces belonging to Graham Petersburg battery.
One of Crawford brigade, brushed aside,
mayo's brigade, and captured the two artillery pieces.
