So just got home with this. An M1864 Springfield, or it seems, with some unusual modifications.
Muzzle shortened possibly, a rudimentary rear sight, and an obviously handmade ramrod.
Cannot tell if stock is shortened. I usually see these with three bands. This has two, does not appear to have been messed with.
Its an unusual piece that I got for a song. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Its hard to see with the photos upside down your are right it has been greatly modified. The barrel is not for an 1864 Springfield if you could rotate the photos it would help.

Love the buckhorn rear site. So many were modified for sporting purpose or shall I say assembled of various parts. Barrel looks like Mod 1841 or 42 but inlet would have to be opened a bit for the 69 barrel. I just purchased a Model 1841 Mississippi rifle with single phase double set triggers fitted to it with several modifications for probably buffalo trade.

I gotta remember to rotate this phone taking pics..yeah, its been modded. Was going to take it apart, but cannot get the front band over the front sight.

I turned them for you but the musket didn't get any better. Interesting piece. Is the butt plate marked? You are going to have to take the tang screw out, loosen the barrel band screw and take the barrel and bands off at the same time.

Thanks. Buttplate is marked 'U.S.'
I took the screw out, everything is stiff and front band won't clear the front sight. Gonna have to be careful with it.

You will need to take off the lock-plate but after the tang screw is out and lock-plate out you should be able to rotate the barrel enough to slide it and the barrel bands off all at one time. I would just go ahead and field strip the it.

There definitely was another sight on it at one time..you can see where a screw was, and an outline of a base.
