I got a glimpse of a biography of a Lt. Col. Charles Somerville Stewert who was killed at Fort Morgan. Not sure of the spelling. In the spring of 1863 they heard the rumor that Fort Morgan was to be attacked. Lt. Col. Stewert wanted to check his 32 pounders for long range. On April 30, 1863 one of them exploded having already been charged with powder. the crew unknowingly double charged it. Besides Stewert, 5 of the artillery crew were killed as well. A 200 lb.chunk of the gun hit Stewert in the head. Anyone know any more details?
