First picture. Brown's Ferry about halfway up around the bend (left side) where Hazen and Turchin attacked on October 27, 1863. Led to reopening the Federal supply line at Chattanooga.
Yep. Great photos and nice view. Been up there a couple of times. One of my favorite places. Gonna spend a whole day up there one of these times. Orchard Knob right before sunrise is pretty awesome too.
First picture: The Union had two gun batteries on Moccasin Bend, just north of the river that severely hampered the Confederates ability to move men and supplies into the valley, which was to the left of the photo, Lookout Valley.
Dont just sit on top. Drive to the Cravens House on the North face. Then take the trail around to the West side and see where the battle was actually fought.
Chanticleer Lodge, seen here in a period postcard, was where we stayed and not far from the famous Rock City Gardens; it's still there, recently renovated, and operates as a charming B&B. Below, my then-new bride in the foreground listening to a NPS ranger in Point Park.
I stayed at the Chanticleer last time I was in Chattanooga 4 or 5 years ago. I liked it very much. There are some very good small restaurants and bistros on in the Tennessee side of Lookout Mountain City. I can't speak to restaurants on the Georgia side as the ones on the Tennessee were closer and more convenient to the inn. One of my contacts I was visiting lives in a house that straddles the state line. Another one lives west of Chattanooga and his house straddles the CST/EST dividing line.

That sounds like about the same time I re-visited there, or maybe it was by now just a little longer than that. I forget the name of the nice restaurant we went to, but it was on the way from there to Point Park.
