I'm currently looking for help with Army Organization for my TL (here) as I have no clue about Officer Seniority and want to write up my next update as quickly as possible. I have some things figured out but not others. If you're interested in helping me, please DM me and I will give you what I have so far as well as some extra information.

If what you want to know is what the organizational structure is likely to be like, that's different from asking what names are likely to fill those slots.

What time period is this?
Early 1862 though the PoD of the TL is in 1860 and the period in between sees some things go differently in between 1860 and Spring 1862, such as President Wilson in 1860, MO and KY seceding alongside the other 4 states that seceded, Sherman and Joe Johnston dying at Bull Run but Bee and Bartow live, Lander, Lyon, and Stevens live past their OTL expiration date, etc, etc. Please read the TL to get better context if needed.

So, we're looking at commanders from army to brigade? Check battles and leaders to start
that's what I did for the Confederates and there's quite a bit still blank/left open and as for the the Union, the Western Theatre has three forces at this time (Army of the Ohio under Rosecrans, Army of the Miami under Buell, and Department of Little Egypt under Grant) while the Army of the Chariton is fighting in Missouri.

with how scattered these forces are and how much larger they are (McClernand's X Corps is in Rosecrans' AotO for example), you can understand how I'd find things difficult, especially with individuals who were dead otl by this point in time and who to properly replace them with (wikipedia lists isn't exactly helpful)

Gotcha. So, Lets start a little smaller. Which corps are you interested in? I'll help with divisions and some brigades as we go

Assuming no new laws, firstly Army Corps are not yet allowed. The regulations of 1857 abolished them, and the first Corps were created by executive order. It is July '62 before Congress passes a law authorising them, and the President still is invested with the only authority in creating them.

Divisions generally contained 3 bdes, although there was no rule to this effect. A department often stacked up a lot of divisions without corps.

McClernand is still a brigadier-general of volunteers. After creating a few at the beginning, Lincoln adopted a policy of making a second star a "reward." Historically McClernand raised a whole brigade from Southern Illinois, and got one of the first BG(V) stars, and was made a MG after his victory at Fort Donelson.

thanks for the McClernand clarification.

On Divisions and Brigades, I'm using this as my basis and going for the max - https://www.battlefields.org/learn/articles/civil-war-army-organization (obviously troop numbers are different)

ITTL, in October of 1861, at the urging of War Secretary Fremont, President Wilson, Vice President Washburne, AG Lincoln, and the Generals, Congress passes the Militia Act and President Wilson signs off on the creation of quite a few Corps to fill the four armies in existence at the time, with the ability of appointing Brigade, Division, and Corps Commands being relegated to the commander of the Army unless the President, CGotA, or War Secretary felt it necessary to step in and appoint a commander themselves, while also reserving the President the right of removing a General if he feels he has proven insufficient, with proper reasoning for removal.

You can type on google; order of battle and see lists of links on wikipedia for the Confederates and Federals in battles that were fought.
