Had not Longstreet wasted 2 hours on a useless countermarch the confederate attack would have caught Sickies in the middle of his movement and 5th corps units would not yet have arrived to cover little round top.

The Fifth Corps had arrived by 8:00 a.m. of July 2. Starting the action at 2:30 would have meant that Longstreet's attack would have been well underway before Sedwick's Sixth Corps vanguard arrived on the field at 4:00 p.m.
