I didn't watch the movie because it's about the most over rated president this country ever had. He was also the worst.
My reasons for my position are as follows.
Lincoln meant to have a war with the seven Confederate States in order to force them back into the Union at bayonet point. He did this by sending a fleet to Charleston Harbor and sending in a decoy ship knowing it would be fired on, thus giving him an excuse to invade the seven states. The records of the war show he was a war criminal. He sent troops door to door to confiscate weapons, He had the entire Maryland government arrested and jailed, he suspended the right to trial, He closed newspapers and jailed publishers for writing things against him. He invaded peaceful States that only wanted to be left alone to govern themselves.

Welcome from southeastern North Carolina.

He is certainly the one president that all others are rated against.

He was also the worst.

Nope.

We now have your opinion. Let's see if your statements below support this.

He did this by sending a fleet to Charleston Harbor and sending in a decoy ship knowing it would be fired on, thus giving him an excuse to invade the seven states.

I would like a historical source for this one, as I have never found such a "decoy" theory in all my 38 years of research of the American Civil War.

The records of the war show he was a war criminal.

What records would these be? What book are they in or what website are these records on? Sources, please.

He sent troops door to door to confiscate weapons,

Specific incidents, please. When and where did Lincoln ordewr such weapons confisticated?

He had the entire Maryland government arrested and jailed,

The ENTIRE legislature of Maryland? Sure about that?

he suspended the right to trial,

He did? To trial? Don't you mean he suspended the writ of habeas corpus?

He closed newspapers and jailed publishers for writing things against him.

How many newspapers did he himself close? How many publishers were jailed?

He invaded peaceful States that only wanted to be left alone to govern themselves.

Which States were 'peaceful' that he invaded?

I see a lot of opinion being stated without supporting evidence or historical sources. While I have no doubt you yourself sincerely believe what you say above, there's not a shred of evidence to support it.

I await your posting of evidence and sources to support your post.

Oh, and welcome to the forum. :)

Sincerely,

Millard Fillmore
James Buchanan
Warren Gamaliel Harding

Yes, Welcome. And, I do hope you'll stick around. Listen, learn, read, study with keen attention and an open mind. If you do, I'm sure you will come to realize that just about every sentence in your first post is simply not true.

There's a lot of such talk going around just now, based almost entirely on modern political opinions, not on historical fact. Like the proverbial "hook, line, and sinker"..... it's dangerous when swallowed whole.

Howdy + Welcome from Texas. I agree Lincoln is a bit over rated, the president not the movie. But I 'm just curious how he did it? The firing on the Star of the West in Charleston Harbor happened on January 9, 1861. Almost 2 months before He was inaugurated. If I have my dates wrong someone please help me out here. Thats one of the things you'll see here people don't mind helping each other out.

SMH, You're entitled to your opinions but I wholeheartedly disagree. Lincoln was far from perfect, but he was the best man at that time for the presidency. IMHO, the Confederate States had no legal authority to secede and Lincoln was well within his powers to bring them back into the Union. Welcome to the forums, btw.
