This may be old beaver hat to some of our well researched members. Bumped into this in an archive for the Independent, a newspaper which made a point of compiling " Lincoln " stories after his death like Century magazine did, the entire war.
Since any Lincoln quotes in the Independent's compilation would of course be both second hand and after Lincoln's death they can't be fully trusted but some sure are intriguing. This one deals with Lincoln famously threatening to send whiskey to all generals based on Grant's preference.
The president of a telegraph company, Albert Chandler is responsible for having written this section for the newspaper.
