Had a chance to visit 3 of the sites after dropping my daughter off at school in Farmville after spring break.

First up Amelia Court House. The trails sign is about 20 yards from the Confederate statue.

Lastly was Cumberland Church which is on the north side of the Appomattox about 3 miles from Farmville. The 2nd picture is looking north which would have been the way Lee's lines were oriented here.

Got a picture of the historical marker next to the church sign?

I want to follow the complete way from Petersburg to Appomattox with a bicycle. Great post, I'm looking forward for more👍✌️
Sounds like fun to me except that I am more out of shape now than I've ever been and I'd be afraid of turning into road-kill. Some of those good ol' boys don't like cyclists and don't hesitate to throw things at them or swerve at them. I've been screamed at and swerved at myself years ago. Maybe just carry a mountain bike with you and if one of the stops has a trail you can pull it off the rack and go for a spin.

Seriously I think it's a thing for our " after work life ". Do you know if there is any information material about

Ah you were exploring around my backyard. Sleepy little town it is. The markers typically indicate some of the key points of interest that one could place a marker near. Much of the rest is seldom known to most.

The entire area was saturated with troops and equipment during those few days. Many of the units frustrated with the clogged up roadways took off on their own accord on other roads or even cross country trekking. Much of it was a running skirmish fight from hill top to hill top much of the way with the Federal Cavalry remaining in constant contact each step of the way.

Going to Amelia CH wasnt just a chance occurrence, it was planned in advance. Excess munitions and equipment were already parked there well before the Army arrived. Unfortunately the much needed rations were not.

I would heed caution for many legs of that route. Many of those original rural roads today arent much more than winding narrow paved horse paths competing space with logging trucks. Careful
On a personal note, it's good to see you back here. Your absence was noticed and I wondered about you often. I thought about you when I visited Farmville, High Bridge and Sailor's Creek in June 2022.

Must be great to go to the places whenever you want. I have seen them on YouTube Videos, for example " bitter April " with James Robertson jr. , my absolute favourite Thread, but of course it's better to be there

Yeah that would be life threatening in some parts of it do to the roads you would be on, especially in the Amelia court house to Jetersville to sailors creek part. Sailors creek is off of a 2 lane road that is extremely hilly and traffic goes 55 mph. You could bike the trail in high bridge state park that I believe does follow some of the retreat trail.

Maybe I have the wrong idea about it

If you want a good bike ride in Virginia do the capital trail it runs from Richmond to Williamsburg, it's specifically built for bikes.
