Restricted Lee

My High school, Robert E Lee apparently will have it's name changed. I was recently involved in a discussion/ argument with many alumni whether a name change should take place. I am against changing the name as I believe Lee to be a honorable man. However , others , including a PHD in history called Lee a " traitor who split up families and tortured slaves ". Anyone care to weigh in?
