Freeman won The Pulitzer Prize with this effort. The four volume work (do not settle for the one volume heavily abridged edition) is worth every penny. I must refer to at least one of the four volumes on a weekly basis. Of course, some aspects of the massive work must be used with cautioned, such as the Longstreet-Gettysburg discussion. However and overall, it is highly recommend.

Regards

I actually joined the Houston CWRT recently and we had the author of "THE MYTH of the lost cause" speak. The Longstreet Lee relationship was discussed as Longstreet being a possible scape goat? Is this something you may agree?

If so, maybe some additional readings on this topic.

I have the mid 1940's edition of "Lee's Lieutenants," NY: Charles Scribner's and Sons. Volume two still has the original dust jacket with the artwork on the front. Price on the inside flap was $5.00. That was a lot back in 1946.

I just scored the 4 lee bio set AND lee lieutenants hardbacks all for 50 bucks! Not in perfect condition and ex lib book but still a good score for reference! Im excited to recieve these!

You've done well, Bscox3. I paid eighty bucks for my set of Freeman's work. Then, this guy Andy Hall posts the free link on the internet. (Kicking self...)

My brother is planning to buy me the 4-volume Lee bio by Freeman for me as a late birthday/Christmas gift. As much as I appreciate the link to the free text, I can't read books on the screen; gotta have that physical copy in my hands.

Anybody got a tip on a good deal for the set that they aren't hopping on for themselves?
