Lee and Grant Question

My husband is etching a picture in leather of Lee and Grant and is sorting through the details of what to etch with them in the piece. What object comes to your mind first when you think of those two heroes of the Civil War?

Lee on his horse, Traveler, or perhaps holding a pair of gauntlets. Grant with a Cigar.

What about Union and Confederate battle flags, that's what comes to my mind.

Strangely enough when I think of both of them, the first thing that comes to mind (as far as an image) is their eyes...Grant is a survivor with a determination in his eyes...Lee's eyes always seem to be showing sympathy in pictures I've seen of him.
Just my opinions though.

Great ideas! He had been thinking about putting the Appamattox Courthouse between them up until now. Still not sure where he's going with this one. Feel free to keep posting ideas. This is very helpful to him.

The first thing came to my mind was horses! They both loved them and were excellent horsemen.
