The newest issue of Military Images arrived today. In it is an article about leather neck stocks worn by the US Army. I know that the Army purchased a almost half a million of these, but I don't recall seeing any Civil War images of men wearing them. I do not think soldiers particularly cared much for these leather neck stocks they were forced to wear. This makes me wonder about the private purchase neck stock shown in the article. Why would Sergeant Charles H. Darling purchase a leather neck stock when most soldiers were finding a way to "misplace" the leather neck stocks the Army was forcing them to wear?
