On Tuesday, June 27, at just before 9:00 a.m., I visited the Dead Angle. I'd visited before, usually with my son, but on this date I was solo. There was another man there, obviously for the same reason, and the occasional dog-walker or jogger who were clueless to the day's significance. I walked the Confederate line from Mebane's Battery to Maney's Brigade, then went to the bottom of the hill to get the Yankee perspective.

Returning to the Confederate line, I then read the appropriate passage from the Gospel according to Sam Watkins, then, before driving off, I listened to Claire Lynch's cover of "Kennesaw Line."

What a great experience. Maybe one day I can walk the same route, even if its not the anniversary.

I am sorry to say that I did not know the anniversary date, but, ironically, I downloaded the book "Kennesaw Mountain" by Earl J. Hess on 27 June. Kind of scary actually. I was looking for information related to an ancestor who served in the militia late in the war after being discharged earlier in the war for medical reasons. The book has the basic information that I needed.
The book is available here for free.

Thank you for the great photo and your dedication to keeping the memories alive.

My 2nd great-grandfather was in the 7th Regiment, Georgia Militia. You may already be aware, but Joe Brown's Pets by William Scaife is a great Georgia Militia resource.

I wasn't aware of this book until last week and have ordered it. Due to arrive 7-15 July. I have Joe Brown's Army and saw where Joe Brown's Pets was republished by Scaife and Bragg so I thought I'd take a chance that it contains additional info.

One of the ancestor's I'm researching appears on the 1864 militia list in Paulding Co., GA, District 1081. I don't know the regiment yet.

I love your photograph…about 7 or 8 years ago I was there. There was an artist on the hill side painting this scene. A beautiful spot…
I took several shots along that walk, but only one survived -

That other man was me. I was sitting on the monument reading accounts. Sorry I blocked a good picture of the entire monument. I would have gladly moved! Would've loved to chat.
I did the McCook brigade exact path starting at their stepping off time.
Let me know next time you head over there. I'd be happy to give you a in depth tour!

Wow! Great to meet you. No worries about the monument. I've got several from my last visit. And I'll try take you up on the offer next time.
