No not locket sized...its about 2inches tall, maybe a bit shorter

Sure looks like that could be a possibility. Most slings have a single hook, that looks like a double hook. I think some do have two hooks, I mean side by side.

It looks like it could be a knapsack hook. The straps on a knapsack are very long and possibly he used the entire strap with the attached hook as a belt, or he made his own belt using the knapsack hook. I dug this hook with a piece of the leather still attached.
