Two Union Soldiers playing cards and drinking some whiskey.

Speaking of soldiers, playing cards, and the passing of time, these two "jokers" reminded me of a story that appeared last week in The Gettysburg Times newspaper's daily "Out Of The Past" feature. In 1925 the Red Cross in Gettysburg solicited used decks of playing cards to send to wounded World War I soldiers in hospitals. A local woman donated a deck of cards from 1863 that soldiers in a Gettysburg hospital had used after the battle. Can't help wondering whatever happened to those cards.
