Just back from a 2 day visit to Gettysburg...
Saw the newly renovated Lee's HQ...the CWPT did a great job restoring both the building and the land to its wartime appearance. They also put in an interpretive trail.

Also got to visit Neill Avenue (Lost Avenue) where I met Dean Shultz who was nice enough to give me and my father a 30 minute or so unplanned history lesson, he's truly a great guy.

Finished our visit with Tim Smith and Garry Adelman on a planned tour with about 160 truly devoted, dedicated aficionados of the battle, that was organized by John O'Donnell that covered obscure facts and sites on the battlefield.

I will add pictures in the next day or so...keep your eyes open.

I was in Gettysburg for lunch on Saturday, and was surprised at all the construction along Steinwar Avenue. Big big buildings. I was especially surprised that they appeared to be paving new parking lots, where the parking lots for the old visitor center used to be. I thought their stated goal was to restore that area to its original appearance.... apparently not.

I think that is the long term goal for the spot, but with everything else associated with the government, time and money all factor in! They'll get there, I have faith.

Outstanding! Thank you for sharing.

I have to make it soon to Neill Avenue. Only large area on the battlefield that I have not been to.

With assessability to Neill Avenue so difficult, how does the NPS maintain that area? It looks mowed and maintained.

I hope you intend to enter one of these in the current monthly photo contest - several of them are outstanding!

how do you get a tour with Addelman? That guy is high energy. And I bet he is a captivating speaker.

Oh and great photos!
Glad you like the pix!
A Facebook group I belong to sets up tours with him and Tim Smith about 2x a year with a significant amount of our money going to battlefield preservation. I did the Union Fishhook tour with them a couple years ago, I think it was darned near 11 miles after all was said and done, my father and I were limping like old men, he was jogging to the parking area LOL.
He and Tim play so well off of each other, just tons of info, and they love what they do (and it really shows in their work).

From what I gathered from Dean Shultz, he does a bunch of the maintenance up there. It really isn't accessible for maintenance equipment without an easement from the landowners. It's said that less than 1% of Gettysburg visitors ever see the place.
