I so hate hearing about vandalism, so I thought I would post some good news. We just finished Joseph E Johnston sculpture in Dalton GA. Came out great. We also found the foundry Mark and surprisingly enough it was cast at Tiffany Studios NY. If you didn't know, Tiffany produced some of the most high-end sculpture work of that time. Since the south was in a major recession (find of like now), it was rare for a town in the south to be able to purchase a bronze sculpture. The largest percentages of confederate sculptures were stone, about 75 percent. The town folk refer to him as Uncle Joe and while we were restoring him, they would yell out of their car windows, thanks for fixing Uncle Joe. Love this town!! Next is the confederate soldier in the Confederate Cemetery, starting tomorrow. The United Daughters of the Confederacy paid for the restoration, So, a BIG THANK YOU TO THEM!!!

Very nice statue and post. The United Daughters of the Confederacy, of which I am a member, have donated to many statues and monuments.
I do believeThe United Daughters of the Confederacy were called the Monument Makers, for the large amount of monuments they built...more than anyone else........Thank you.

The sculpture of General Johnston was done by Belle Kinney Scholz. She was born in Tennessee in 1890. She did several other sculptures. She married another sculptor, Leopold Scholz in 1921 and completed several other works with him.

I am very interested in the Tiffany Foundry which was located in Corona, Queens, New York. It was started in 1897 and did bronze castings besides many other Tiffany pieces.

Corona was the town my grandmother and her family lived in shortly after her parents came from Italy. I have been trying to prove if several relatives worked at the Tiffany Foundry.
