was looking at book on riverboats I picked up in Vicksburg, Life on the River by Norbury Wayman. It has a sketch/lithograph of the John Simonds at the STL riverfront describing her as a large luxurious three decked boat of the 1850's and that she was reported destroyed during the CW, giving credit to Thoughts about St Louis dated 1855

Unable to find much else about her. Does anyone have details on her or the circumstances of her loss?

According to Way's Packet Directory, the John Simonds (#3114) was intentionally sunk by Confederate forces at Island No. 10 in the "chute" past the island to block traffic, along with the packet Winchester. Though no date is given for the John Simonds, the Winchester is listed as sunk 7 April 1862.
