Thank you for posting this. I believe my g-g-grandfather was in the 18th Michigan Infantry because this John Kirby died in the Civil War. I have not taken the time to research his Civil War service, but do know he died during the Civil War. To the best of my knowledge my grandfather never said much about his grandfather or even mention that he had died during the Civil War. I doubt my mother know her great grandfather fought or died in the Civil War. This kind of thing was simply not something people talked about.
