Jim Getty, who portrayed President Abraham Lincoln for nearly 40 years, passed away Saturday night, September 26, at 83 years of age.

The Victorian Dance Ensemble had the honor of performing and working with Jim over the years. He was a great supporter of the Pennsylvania Gettysburg Monuments Project (Readshaw’s Raiders) and attended our annual Preservation Ball in the rotunda of the Pennsylvania Capitol Building. He also joined us in stage performances in Gettysburg, Harrisburg and Frederick. In 2009, Jim accompanied us to a Presidential Inaugural Ball at the Smithsonian.

Born in Illinois, "the land of Lincoln," Jim was a school teacher in Sandusky, Ohio, before moving to Gettysburg with his family in 1977 to portray Lincoln as a full-time career. He was Lincoln and portrayed the sixteenth president on Dedication Day and Remembrance Day in Gettysburg. His speaking engagements took him across the country.

Jim was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He was always glad to share his knowledge and to pose for pictures. Jim was a good friend and will be sorely missed.
