There were forty cannons at the battle of Jenkins' Ferry. Now before you conjure up images of some massive artillery barrage such was seen at Gettysburg, I should reign in your imagination. There were 21,000 troops in the Saline River bottoms in the moments leading up to the fight. That being said, when the time of the battle arrived, there were 13,000 actively engaged (5,000 Federals and 8,000 Confederates). [ 695 more words. ]
