Well now, I have loved each and every work you have posted. On this one my friend you have out done yourself. This looks to be post war. Any idea of the year? Thank you very much for sharing.

I thought you might like this! I haven't the foggiest, I stumbled upon it some months back and saved it for the sake of doing it sometime in the future - I have no idea when it was taken, but I agree, it definitely looks postwar.

Perhaps a "Next Project" for Zuzah would be to colorize this companion photo (please ) which looks like may have been taken at the same time as the one above...

I believe the inscription is to Mrs. Stephen Dill Lee. Her husband commanded artillery for Longstreet at one point in the war. I think after the war the Lee's lived in Mississippi. But since Longstreet lived in New Orleans after the war (and since it was controlled by the Yanks for a good part of the war), seems reasonable to think this would have been taken during his post-war time there in New Orleans.
In spite of my obvious "Yankee" leanings, I am extremely respectful of Gen. Jas. Longstreet. I really feel I could sit down and have a very honest conversation with him. Just about everybody else would be full of hokum & nonsense. These portraits reveal the man to a large extent.
Zuzah, that is wonderful!!
He looks as if he just would start to talk to you the next instant! Do you remember that picture of the "breathing" Lee a while ago? Some trick done with Photoshop. i would love to see Longstreet "breathe".
Thank you very much, I always liked Longstreet best, but now it is as if I see him for the first time!
