" It was at the First Battle of Bull Run in July of 1861, otherwise known as the First Battle of Manassas, that Jackson earned his famous nickname, Stonewall. When Jackson charged his army ahead to bridge a gap in the defensive line against a Union attack, General Barnard E. Bee, impressed, exclaimed, "There is Jackson standing like a stone wall." Afterward, the nickname stuck, and Jackson was promoted to major general for his courage and quick thinking on the battlefield. "

There are Jackson ' biographers ' here who will know what this is. I'm not one of them Bumped into this in the New York archives- supposed the be the cedar tree Jackson was near when he gained his famous nickname from Bee- Stonewall. Have yet to find a reference to it although could be looking in the wrong places..
Then there's yet another tree- Jackson's ' prayer ' tree. Who knew?
" According to local lore Jackson used to pray under the tree that toppled to the ground here last week, hence the moniker as ' Jackson's Prayer Tree'....... "
The tree was donated to woodworkers in the interests of History. Stonewall fans can purchase anything from bowls to cufflinks to- pen made from this storm toppled tree. Kindda cool.
