Below is a letter transcribed from Cassville Hospital Cassville,Georgia I trying to figure out if this is John F or James F Gpurley form the 30th Tennessee Company F. The index to their pension records are included below.

Camp Near Enterprise Mississippi
September 1st, 1863

I certify that the within named J. F. Gourley Private of Captain W. T. Samples Company F of the 30th Regiment

of Tennessee born in Sumner County State of Tennessee Aged twenty six (26) years- five feet nine inches high

dark complexion, dark eyes and by occupation a farmer qas enlisted by Captain B. Smith at Red Springs Macon

County Tennessee on the 22nd day of October 1861 to serve for a period of 12 months.
The said J F Gourley was paid by Captain McGavock to include the 30h Day of June 1863. He has

received compensation for his clothing and his bounty

If his birth date was Oct. 28, 1834--he would have been 26 on Oct. 22, 1861.

Enlisted in Company F 30th Tenn. Infantry, Oct. 1861 in Sumner County.
Records are uncertain about war record. It is known that he was a private in Company F, 30th TN Infantry, C.S.A. He enlisted Nov 22, 1861. He is reported on the roll for March and April 1864 as AWOL. Union records indicate this unit was captured and paroled in Yazoo City, Mississippi, July 13, 1863. Wife's application for pension indicates that he was not present when his company and regiment surrendered. He was "at home on a parole, sick, having left the command in July 1863. Note: Wife Mary L. received confederate widow's pension in TN from July 1928 till her death in Dec 1931.
