Is this a military jacket?

I picked up this completely unidentified CDV for cheap recently because I could tell it was probably an 1860s CDV. Later realized his jacket looked interesting. Could someone tell me if it is military (soldier/sailor)?

It could be , but you usually see a sword or hat or other military item present . You can't even see if a belt and buckle are present .

This is a Civilian coat based on several observations such as buttons.

Inclined to say no, as a military coat would normally have metal buttons.

It is hard to say, it reminds me of a frock coat, but the buttons are different. I would say it is probably a civilian jacket.

It could well be a civilian sack coat.
