Evansville Daily Courriel, August 20th 1871.

"In the fall of 1864, a small squad of guerrillas crossed the river at the dead hour of night, just below Maxville (Spencer County Indiana), penetrated into that village and robbed the house of Capt. Green B. Taylor, and upon awakening one of the family, one of the ruffians knocked the captain's wife down, and then they left precipitately and recross the river before the alarm could be given. A company of "home guards" under the command of the gallant Capt. Taylor crossed the river in pursuit, who came up with the guerrillas at or near Lewisport, and chastised them severely. One of the ruffians, the same one who had maltreated the Captain's wife, was killed while resisted his arrest by the Guards."

New Albany Daily Ledger, Oct 17th 1864

"Guerrillas. - A party of guerrillas attacked Hardinsburg, Ky., on Saturday, but were repulsed by the citizens. Three guerrillas were killed and seven wounded. On Saturday a party of guerrillas crossed into Indiana near Lewisport, Ky. They went to the residence of Capt. Green Taylor, and robbed him of all his money and valuables. One of the crowed knocked Mrs. Taylor down three times with the butt of his pistol, and then threatened to shoot her for resisting their stealing. Yesterday morning Capt. Taylor, with eight or ten Hoosiers crossed into Kentucky, pursued the thieves beyond Lewisport, came up with them, killed the leader and one or two others, and wounded several more.
