ID request on this Cannonball

[Cornpone and Molasses]

This turned up in NJ and I was wondering if it may be Colonial, Pre-Civil War, or possibly even Confederate. Maybe it is not even a cannonball.
It is around 9 lbs. Could not not mic it, but ruler is in photos for scale. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure it's a Civil War projectile- solid shots are tricky. They are easily confused with shot puts.

A 4" 9 pound ball would have been from a British 9 pound field piece from the War of 1812. However this has a prominent seem and looks to be a mill ball or ore crushing ball.
