i stumbled across an envelope in a box and instantly saw the words "war of the rebellion" on it. My heart stopped. I've been looking for my great great grandfather's papers forever. Private Ira Lunt fought with Maine's 2nd Regt company D USSS. The papers show infantry because he was transferred there after they disbanded the Sharpshooters. I'm so excited to find this!

William R. Wooters, the Morgan & Morgan of his day! Perhaps he was the first ambulance chaser!
Great find of your CGGrandfather's papers.

David

Thomas you have a real treasure trove of your GGGFs Civil war memoribilia, its outstanding. You are very fortunate to have this. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, that is beyond amazing! Literally handle them with gloves on. The oils from our hands don't do paper goods any favors..or swords, or clothes...I am assuming you have an acid free container you will house them in? Definitely share your pics with the local historical society.

Yes. There's a document restoration company near me. I'm going to consult them on it. (No I'm not going to have anything restored). But they are great about advice on acid free stuff. I scanned it so I will print the copy and store the original.

Does anyone know a good qualified appraiser with CW gun specialty? I'm about 30 min south of Philadelphia

I do not, but recommend you start a new thread on CW-era firearm appraisers in your area. Many will know, they may not see the request in a discharge paper thread.

Good idea. Thanks. I wasn't thinking.
