I Could Use Some Help...

@Allie Well, you may try cutting the Shepherd part out of the picture because that may not be the name to go by. Unfortunately Wilma H. Moore is not correct. Wilma J. Moore is the correct name according to my dad.

@civilken Abolitionist I wouldn't mind, but I don't much care for yankees. I guess I'd have to change my profile picture if that was the case though. Lol.

Middle initials are often inaccurate on the census, that's unimportant. I have a record for Wilma J Moore from Missouri who died in Fresno in 1967 - both these Wilmas from Missouri are supposedly dead. I assume your dad would know that his own grandmother was alive, so... Hmmm. I'll keep looking. What are the names of your dad's parents?

Lisa Eileen Shepherd was his mother's name. And Theodore Rincon was his father.
Okay, great! They came right up as a couple on Google and from there it was easy to find Theodore's birth certificate, so now I know his parents and can go back from there. Will PM you later with info assuming he is still living - it's against the rules to post info on living people.

Definitely no Civil war soldiers on Theodore's line, as his father was from Mexico and his mother's people came from Denmark and Sweden after the war. However you seem to have some cousins on that side who are Ancestry users, and there's nice documentation back to the first American immigrant.

Does your local public library have a genealogy group? Those are usually a good place to start in tracing your family.

Is it your understanding that Wilma Moore (maiden name) of Clay Co. Missouri married a Mr. Shepherd and that Shepherd was this great grandfather's last name? Or was Shepherd the last name of another great grandfather (we all have four biological great grandfathers)? Would these people be listed as White rather than Black or Indian in the censuses? Sorry for that last question but this information is essential to know if a person found as a possible ancestor could be your relative.

I'd just like to post here and say. I greatly appreciate the help all of you have given me. Because of ya'll I have been able to trace my family history back quite a ways farther than I would've been able to do on my own. I cannot thank all of you enough. Especially Allie who has and still continues to be a great help in tracing the lines and connecting the dots.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
