After Banks's second failed attack on Port Hudson (June 14, 1863), he decides to raise a storming column. He gives an "inspirational" speech to the men of the 4th Massachusetts. It wasn't well received and one soldier wrote:

"July 1. [T]he men meet to heer [sic] General Banks make a speech[.] The men do not cheer him[.] [T]hey gave him a small clap at the finish[.]"

All I wrote is for the notes is Webb, 68 but I can't figure out who Webb is or what book for the full citation. I went to Dornbusch but can't find a relevant Webb. Anybody recognize it?

NVM. I found it! It's from Nancy O. Weber's My Unknown Soldier.
