This message is for rhettbutler1865. I'm fascinated about your story and I want to share some information with you that may possibly be of some help. I've been researching Cobb's Legion Cavalry Battalion for many years now and as far as I know, there was never a major from this Legion who was killed at the East Cavalry Battlefield. However, Major William G. Conner of the Jeff Davis Legion (Mississippi) was killed during the cavalry battle that took place on this part of the battlefield on 3 Jul 1863. Both of these Legion cavalries were in the same brigade (Hampton's) and I feel sure that all of the officers from both units probably knew each other. Also, Cobb's Legion Cavalry did not participate in the battle on July 3rd, because of the number of casualties they incurred on July 2nd, which took place just south of Hunterstown.
