Bernard Powers gave a tour of sites in Charleston related to black heritage. He talked about the failed 1822 slave revolt that resulted in the execution of the leader, Denmark Vesey. Professor Powers spoke in front of the Charleston church that Denmark Vesey's son built. He talked about the historical significance of the church which became the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.
