As it's Fourth of July weekend I thought I would delve into the history of the hotdog. I'd say a lot of the world would consider the hotdog a quintessential food of the United States. I wondering if that is just a stereotype and if they are actually universal loved across the country. Or are they just an esoteric thing for New Yorkers & Chicagoans. I'm fond of a decent hot dog but they can be hard to come by as I avoid dirty water hot dog carts. When I was last in Nyc I tried a Nathan's and it was good. I know German immigrants brought it to the US but it will be interesting to discover how they became so popular and such an integral part of going to a ball game 🇺🇸.

My young kids (6 and <) eat hotdogs like they're going out of style 🤣. I don't really ever eat them since we reserve them mainly for the kids, but yesterday we had a "dinner picnic" outside and my wife said "I made YOU a hotdog, too!" It was GOOOOD!!

Sometimes the simple things, every now and then, are the best 👍

A Lum's Hot Dog was steamed in beer and it was rather tasty. And as the commercial jingle used to say: Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet...

I spent my childhood on the west-coast, hotdogs were plenty popular there too. I'd say by this point they're a nation-wide food. Although outside of specific geographic areas it can be hard to find ones that are "truly" delicious. In one of the towns I lived in we had a guy from New York who opened a hotdog van near the local hardware store. I used to pester my family constantly asking if we needed any nails, screwdrivers, etc. just so I'd have an excuse to go down there and buy lunch! Those hotdogs were out of sight, and I think it had a lot to do with the origin of the guy making them.

I'd say that is the great thing about a country like the USA. When people from one region move to another and open a restaurant with food from their home and knock it out of the park. Thankfully a company in a nearby county are producing good quality Irish hotdogs they are excellent compared to the other generic brands in the supermarkets.

Hot dogs are great and are plentiful in my house and especially popular with our 1 and 4 year old. I live in the Bermuda Triangle of hot dogs. Syracuse has Hofmann brand, Rochester has Zweigles, and Buffalo has Sahlen brand. Growing up it was always Zweigles hot dogs but my palate has moved onto Hofmann's.
