Hi everyone,
I was headed to Camp Snider in Haymarket Virginia for a cub scouting event when all of a sudden I see a Civil War Trails marker. Naturally I slammed on the brakes and turned into the parking lot of the Antioch Church amid groans from the kids.
It turns out that Camp Snider resides near the center of Hopewell Gap and during the Civil War it served the gap as a transportation corridor during a few campaigns. According to the information panel rhe Antioch Church also served as a bivouac for the troops of General Wilcox.
When I first started getting interested in the Civil War there were so many different faces and generals and campaigns/battles...I never thought that these strangers on the information panes would be not only recognizable to me, but that I would know a little about their "back story." I just thought I'd share my spontaneous Civil War "side trip"
