OTD -February 8, 1869, President Andrew Johnson issued a presidential pardon to Dr. Samuel Mudd. Four years earlier, Mudd had been sentenced to prison for aiding John Wilkes Booth after the Lincoln assassination.

The CBS correspondent Roger Mudd was a direct descendant of Dr. Samuel Mudd. Mudd was honoring the Hippocratic Oath in setting the leg of John Wilkes Booth and in my opinion the pardon Dr. Mudd was deserved.
